DanceStation Newsletter: February 2023
Just a reminder that our weather policy is…
If O’Fallon Schools close for weather reasons, there are no classes at DanceStation. All make-up classes (for weather or illness) must be attended by March. After that time, we will start working on recital dances, and your child would be learning the choreography of another class (which is quite confusing). Please check with your teacher for a suitable time for make-up classes if you wish.
The costume boards are up in the waiting room! The theme for our youngest classes is Under the Big Top (circus) for ballet and When I Grow Up for tap and jazz. The afternoon and evening ballet this year is Sleeping Beauty. The jazz/tap/modern/bway second half theme for the afternoon show is Y2K – songs from the year 2000. The evening show theme is TBA.
DanceStation does not take off for most Monday holidays. We will have class on Feb. 20th (Presidents’ Day).
After exams are over (March 4-5th) you will return to your normal ballet class times and Cecchetti classes are finished for the year. All Cecchetti students in Grades 1-6 have theory sheets they need to be studying. The Cecchetti Theory Pizza Party this year is on Friday evening, Feb. 24th, from 5-6pm at the studio. All theory needs to be completely memorized by then and we will quiz the students for 30 min and then eat pizza. Exams are Sat. March 4 and Sun. March 5. A note with exam times and fees will be sent home soon. Not all Cecchetti students examine every year. It is very common to need more than 6 months (Sept-Feb) to be ready to test. All Cecchetti students can attend the pizza party, if they are going in for exams or not, but it is mandatory for those taking the exam.
Advanced Broadway begins on Wednesday, March 1st from 6:30-8pm and runs through the June recital (will be 6:30-8:30pm starting in May). Adv Ballet dancers are eligible for this class. Intermediate Broadway (for Ballet 7 and Int Ballet students) will run April-recital and will be Wed 7:30-8:30pm. Broadway for Ballet 6 is TBA. I will know by the end of this week, and it will also run April-recital. The cost for each class is $30 a month, plus a rental fee for recital costumes.
Junior Broadway will meet on Tuesdays from 4-5pm, with Elizabeth, beginning on April 3rd. All students in Ballet 2 – 5 are eligible. This year we are dancing to songs from Seussical the Musical, so it will match our Y2K theme! The class is a fun/extra chance to perform in the recital. The songs are very upbeat and happy for lots of energy on stage, and it’s kind of a post-Cecchetti treat to let loose in this Broadway/jazz inspired class. Junior Broadway runs as a 9-week session with a total fee of $80 (2 months tuition and costume rental fee included).
