February Newsletter
DanceStation Newsletter: February 2022
Just a reminder that our weather policy is…
If O’Fallon Schools close for weather reasons, there are no classes at DanceStation. Call the studio and check the message on the machine if you are ever unsure. I also always post cancellations on our Facebook page and through our DanceStation App. All make-up classes (for weather or illness) must be attended by March. After that time, we will start working on recital dances, and your child would be learning the choreography of another class (which is quite confusing). Please check with your teacher for a suitable time for make-up classes if you wish.
A $55 costume deposit is due by this week, along with your February tuition installment and permission slip. The balance will be sent home in March and due back in April.
We have already measured for costumes, and some ship dates are VERY close to the recital already (like May 27th!). All dancers (except boys hip hop) will receive a ballet costume to keep. We do our absolute best to keep costume prices down for all families, but on average the ballet costumes have been about 15% higher this year due to supply chain issues. We try and keep costs down by doing rental fees for many of our tap, modern, and Broadway classes. Some jazz/tap classes will receive a costume they can wear for both styles to cut down on costs as well.
The theme for our youngest classes is Under the Sea for ballet and Love Makes the World Go Round for tap. All 3-4 yr old and 5-6 yr old ballet/tap classes are in this show (as well as our Advanced dancers and class helpers). The ballet for all combo ballet/jazz/tap levels through Adv ballet this year is Peter Pan. The jazz/tap/modern/Bway 2nd half theme is Shake, Rattle, and Roll. Costume boards for all ballet costumes are up in the lobby! Reminder dress rehearsal and recital dates are June 2-4th at the Hettenhausen center for the Arts.
DanceStation does not take off for most Monday holidays. We will have class on Feb. 21st (Presidents’ Day).
Cecchetti students:
After exams are over, you will return to your normal ballet class times and Cecchetti classes are finished for the year. All Cecchetti students in Grades 1-6 have theory sheets they need to be studying. The Theory Pizza Party this year is on Friday evening, Feb. 25th, from 5-6pm at the studio. All theory needs to be completely memorized by then and we will quiz the students for 30 min and then eat pizza. Exams are Fri. March 4 and Sat. March 5. A note with exam times and fees will be sent home soon. Not all Cecchetti students examine every year. It is very common to need more than 6 months (Sept-Feb) to be ready to test. Primary Cecchetti does not need to be at the Pizza party – sorry, they don’t have any theory to study yet! |
Advanced Broadway begins on Wednesday, March 2 from 6:30-8pm and runs through the June recital (will be 6:30-8:30pm starting in May). Int and Adv Ballet are eligible for this class. Intermediate Broadway (for Ballet 6-7 students) will run April-recital and is TBA – I’m trying to find the best day/time to meet for both classes – I will inform this group ASAP. The cost for each class is $30 a month, plus a rental fee for recital costumes.
Junior Broadway will meet on Tuesdays from 4-5pm, with Elizabeth, beginning on April 4th. All students in Ballet 2 – 5 are eligible. This year we are dancing to Born to Hand Jive (Grease) and You Can’t Stop the Beat (Hairspray). The class is a fun/extra chance to perform in the recital. The songs are very upbeat and happy for lots of energy on stage, and it’s kind of a post-Cecchetti treat to let loose in this Broadway/jazz inspired class. Junior Broadway runs as a 9-week session with a total fee of $80 (2 months tuition and costume rental fee included).
If you signed up for Auto-Pay on our Parent Portal, tuition will always be taken out on the 3rd-5th of each month. Please make sure you have available funds, so it doesn’t bounce back. We are no longer using PayPal except for new students that don’t have a parent portal set up yet. Our parent portal goes directly into our system. Cash or check is still an option if you want to avoid the online fees. If you lost your parent portal link, just email me at edancestation@yahoo.com and I can send it again. Thanks! Elizabeth
