September 2020 Newsletter
Welcome back dancers and hello to new students!
Please read over the Fall return to dance Covid guidelines we emailed you with the registration information if you have any questions about our mask, cleaning, or temperature check policies. We are just so grateful to be back dancing in person. It is A LOT of extra work for all teachers this year. But super worth it to let these kids continue dancing in person. Remember that if your child is sick this year, it is best to keep them home. Just call and leave a message on the machine to let us know. Teachers are also being careful to not come to class ill this year. All the class size limitations, temperature checks, extra cleaning between classes, etc. are all meant to ensure that DanceStation can continue to stay open throughout the fall.
DanceStation APP We are currently working on a free DanceStation app to transition over to online newsletters and alerts from the studio. Once it is ready later this month you will receive an email with instructions on how to get it, the password needed, etc. We hope to utilize the app as our main correspondence with parents and we will use Facebook more for pictures and smaller reminders. We will keep you updated, but please look for that email later in the month.
Recital DVD’s are in! We will send them home over the next week or two with your child.
Tuition: Tuition is due the first class of every month. There is a $10 late fee after the 15th of the month. You can still pay tuition by check or cash, just hand it to your teacher as your child enters. You can also set it up through your bank to mail us a check every month (like an automated payment). This year you can use PayPal on our website dancestation.biz. Starting in October we will be adding a $3 fee to help offset the charges Paypal imposes on the studio. If you wish to avoid the fee you can send a check or cash in an envelope with your dancer’s name on the front. Please remember to put your child’s name on the memo of your check, especially if you have a different last name.
Parking: Remember to drive slowly down the alley, and please make sure to park in our lot or use street parking. The ice cream lot is small and is reserved for their costumers only. Pull all the way into a parking spot to drop your child off, instead of idling in the middle of the lot, for the safety of children and other cars behind you.
Dress Code: Students are expected to follow the dress code (it is posted on our website). All students in ballet classes (Ballet 2 and up) are asked to wear their hair in a bun. Students must wear a solid color leotard and pink tights to all ballet, Cecchetti, and pointe classes. Jazz and modern classes– Students must wear a leotard to all classes. You may wear black leggings, capris, or tights and dance shorts with the leotard. Tight t-shirts or tank tops are acceptable over the leotard, but all students should be prepared to remove them if their teacher asks (and I usually do). Dancers need socks for modern this year and can wear dance shorts to jazz/tap/modern class, but please wear tights underneath your shorter dance shorts. Ladies, no baggy gym shorts. Boys: wear black athletic shorts or pants or black leggings, and white t-shirt, black ballet shoes, and black tap shoes. For Jazz/Tap/ Modern class, any color athletic tee is fine.
Calendar: on the back of this newsletter is DanceStation’s yearly calendar. I know many of you plan your vacations around (and hopefully after!!) the recital, so mark your calendars now! June 4 is dress rehearsal and June 5 is the recital at McKendree University. If you end up taking a vacation before the show, please realize that this will affect not only your own child, but also those students that dance around them. Missing an entire week of classes before recital weekend is highly, highly discouraged and your child may not be able to participate fully as there are mandatory rehearsals throughout that last week.
Have a great year!!! Thank you from all of our teachers—Elizabeth Conway, Sonya Doerr, Jennifer Fischer, Jenny Battenberg, Monica Woods-Knott, and our front desk staff—Claire, Aynsley, Emma, Kasey, and Dominic.
